CONTEMPORARY ART - MUSIC - ECOLOGY - TECH - MINDFULNESS - SCIENCE - CULTURE
WSOHOIDPS (A SHIP IN THE WOODS) est. 2010, is a non-profit incubator working to engage the community through elevated dialogues in art, science, music, new media and culture based in Escondido, California. Through diverse curated events, residency programs, and interdisciplinary collaborations, WSOHOIDPS has become a thriving community of innovative thinkers and supporters interested in exploring our ever-evolving world view. Our events now attract 600-700 visitors partaking in interactive art exhibits and world class musical acts. We've recently been awarded grants from the City and County of San Diego, and celebrated an official ribbon cutting ceremony at our new location in 2016 with former San Diego County Supervisor Dave Roberts. In 2018 we hosted our first 2 day Music and Art Festival in Felicita County Park which featured local and national talent. In 2019 A SHIP IN THE WOODS began a series of programming merging mindfulness, art and technology. It also hosted its first Music Residency Benefit Show to support one of the county’s only music residency programs.
Since 2010 A SHIP IN THE WOODS has become a recognized cultural leader and influencer in the San Diego area. Through hosting a residency program, group art exhibitions, lectures, musical performances and collaborative projects it has created a thriving community of innovative thinkers, and visitors searching for elevated discussions in art, science and culture. As an incubator for new ideas and fringe discussions, A SHIP IN THE WOODS has consistently given exposure and a platform to established artists locally, nationally and internationally, along with students and professors from many accredited local universities. Our vision has been to engage the community and show that our domestic spaces can also be our learning spaces. We take an alternative approach to the elevated dialogues found in museums or institutions, showing that art, science, and culture are part of our daily lives. Through our continued efforts we embrace our role as "a vessel for cultural capital.”

A SHIP IN THE WOODS EXPANSION PROPOSAL
3 ACRE PROPERTY EXPANSION / TRAILS / RESIDENCY / STREAM / POND...
A SHIP IN THE WOODS is interested in expanding its property and adding an expansive 3 acre oak grove. Through this expansion we can also aid in helping Felicita County Park preserve this historical site that is home to one of the oldest Kumeyaay Indian settlements in the county. Not only does it offer land but this property has a large house that can accommodate a full fledge interdisciplinary residency program. This expansion will help create a permanent arts and culture sanctuary unlike anything in the county.
A SHIP IN THE WOODS seeks investors to help expand its current home headquarters into a 5 acre cultural hub and arts incubator set in nature. Your support would help turn the property into a LIVING CLASSROOM with an ongoing artist residency program, outdoor contemporary art installations featuring RHODOPSIN (an interactive light/sound installation inducing a mind-bending afterimage experience), a demonstration site for permaculture incorporating local indigenous Kumeyaay practices including the Red Clay Oven Project, special outdoor farm-to-table dining experiences, ecological wildlife programs with San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, art therapy wellness and yoga retreats, recording studio, podcast, and the launch of SHIPX, an accelerator program bridging technology, art, nature and mindfulness.
The foundation proposes to utilize the existing colonial home and land to enhance our future goals. In turn we can strengthen our community based program and take it to the next level. Our goals for the the property are as follows:
· Build and develop a year round residency program and workshop for innovative multidisciplinary thinkers such as artists, filmmakers, new media innovators, scientists, psychologists, political scientists, musicians, ect…
· Enhance and preserve the natural habitat and wildlife, create interpretive walking trails and plant organic gardens.
· Allow space for artists to create outdoor interactive installations and large scale sculptures for the community to engage with during our public events.
· Collaborate with organizations such as the Museum Of Contemporary Art, the New Children’s Museum, High Tech High and California College of the Arts (San Francisco), to create innovative community events that can bridge the City of San Diego population with North County and beyond.
· Provide an opportunity for high tech companies and scientists to test their new projects and ideas. A SHIP IN THE WOODS can be a living lab in a natural environment fostering new innovations.
RHODOPSIN SPHERE
Expand and enrich our multidisciplinary collaborations such as our ongoing RHODOPSIN project inspired by world renown vision scientist Patrick Cavanagh (Harvard) and John Reynolds (Salk Institute). Designed by our friends at Paradox Urban Design Laboratory, this spherical exhibition space would be a permanent home for the large scale immersive installation that incorporates science, music, art, and other diverse disciplines.

LIVING CLASSROOM
A SHIP IN THE WOODS (est. 2010) nonprofit emerged to support elevated dialogues in the arts and culture through hosting contemporary art events, bringing the conversation from the museum or institution into a domestic space, providing an innovative community an opportunity to meet with likeminded folk in a natural environment that is more familiar. Our homes are our vessels for learning, dreaming, and incubating the world we want to live in. A SHIP IN THE WOODS mission with the LIVING CLASSROOM is to utilize its 2 acre oak grove and home as an exhibition space and educational demonstration site, inviting other organizations and innovative creatives from all backgrounds a place to share and express their world view.

CREATE ABOVE THE TREETOPS
Contribute to the construction of a professional sound recording studio and creative art space with an observation deck looking out over the oak grove of Felicita Park. This unique space will provide local, national and international artists an opportunity to develop cutting-edge work within a natural setting. WSOHOIDPS will help execute and promote the music to an expansive audience and feature in-session musicians during our annual 2 day music/art festival in Felicita Park . The completed project will be a hub for the North County music community and for other non-profit organizations seeking an inspiring and functional space.
PERFORMANCE STAGE / RECORDING STUDIO
MICRO SPACES
Developed by the SHIP team with help from local leading student architects. We look to design/build inspired micro spaces within the natural landscape of the SHIP grounds. Ruins, bunkers, land art, alien quarters in nature; these micro structures and environments can be used by guest artists to inhabit and exhibit work. Funding will go to materials and site preparation.
WHY MICRO SPACES?
Artist Studios in an Oak Grove... Unique spaces for artists to work and exhibit within nature.
Glamping Art Experience...members/patrons will have an opportunity to spend a weekend or overnight experience with an artist or other innovative thinkers and immerse themselves in an environment that promotes dialogues and observations about our ever changing world view.
Immersive Dinner Experience... have a unique dining experience curated by guest cultural leaders. EAT/DRINK/GLAMP... come to discuss current events with local educators, media, politicians...come to share conspiracy theories, alternative ideas, have an overnight group board meeting for your company.
